Fulfill a wish The purpose of the Fulfill a Wish Programme is to meet the emotional and social needs of Hong Kong’s single elderly people. An elderly may want to visit a special place, be it the newest attraction or one with childhood memories, or replace a broken appliance, or enjoy a forgotten hobby. We work with community partners and find those with the greatest needs. Then we organize volunteers to fulfill their wishes.
The programme was piloted in 2006. After a five-year hiatus, we brought it back at the Volunteers for Seniors Day in 2012. Since then, 1,398 volunteers have helped the wishes of 321 elderly people come true. They include outings to Disneyland, shopping for traditional Chinese New Year dry goods, and even singing Cantonese opera on stage. |
